Parvana is one of the main characters in the book, for a 11 year old girl she has safirced her life to save her family she has gone through and seen things that no 11 year old girl should ever see. She lets her family turn her into a boy for the sack of there lives if she did not do that all of the family would of died.
Mother:
Like all mothers Parvana's mother is very protective over her and her brother and sisters and dosen't want her in danger. She becomes very depressed when father was taken away by the Taliban she barely eats and she barely does anything but lie on the mat they have in the living room. Parvana and Nooria can't do anything about it when they to talk to her or get her up she just moans.
Miss Weera:
Miss Weera is basically the life savior of the family, she comes to Parvana house and helps her with the issue with her mother. Like helping her get up have a bath and get changed. She was the one to come up with the idea of turning Parvana into a boy, which basically saves the family.
Shauiza
Shauiza is a innocent little girl who has also gone through a tough time like Parvana and she has to dress up as a boy just like Parvana did, but instead she is a tea boy, Shauiza is an old school friend of Parvana's and they get along very easily even though they didn't talk in school. She has a very though life because she has to be forced to marry but she makes a plan to run away.
Father:
Father was a strong and noble man who was taken away by the Taliban because he went to university in England. His leg was blown off in a mine bomb they are bombs that are hidden under ground. He worked in the market place where he would read letters for people.
Taliban:
This is not just one person it is a group of people that are controlling Afghanistan, they have guns bombs and all the weapons you could possibly think of. They have feelings like the rest of us, they just want to real Afghanistan.
Nooria:
Nooria is Parvanas older sister she is basically the head of the house when mother becomes depressed she has to take care of the kitchen and also has to look after all the children in the house. Her life is basically the same as everyone else in Afghanistan but her life is definitely not like our which is a pretty simple life.
