For this amazing novel by eliis i would give it an 4/5 stars. The reason i gave it 4 stars is because the writing in the novel made me want to keep reading i admired the way eliis worded the novel every page had new excitement and each chapter brought more mystery, worry and curiosity for what could be coming next. The reason i didn't give Ellis a 5/5 stars is because it didn't give me the excitement to be sitting on the edge of my seat also a reason was i thought certain chapters would be more exciting in this novel and sadly sometimes i was dissaponited another low key was this novel did not make me shred a tear which was a surprose foe me cause i am very emontial . Ellis did a great job with this book but if i was her i would of put in a bit more exciting scenes that got me sitting on the edge of my seat and always making me want to read on.
What i learnt from the novel is that in life you should never give up hope no matter how good or bad your life is. Parvana taught me how to have faith and confendience that each day brings new hope and a new bengging. It also taught me how to look after my family more and what i should do for them more often to look after them.
Sadness/Depression:
The way there is sadness in the book is when Parvana's father is taken away from her home never to be seen again. this also causes the mother to go into depression. Anger: One main scene of anger would have to be when Parvana and her mother go to the prison where her father is been held at and when they cant her father back that would of sparked some anger in her and her mother. Frienship: A main act of friendship would have to be when shuzia finds parvana in the market place and promises to come back and when she does she brings parvana food for her to eat and also for her family to eat. War: War is a major theme because throughout the whole book the scenes have all taken place in a war torn place which even through the book you can imagine what it would of been like throughout the book. Gender inequality: This is shown throughout the book because the talbian made rules that women always have to stay inside and arent alowd outside without a man but they never made rules for the men they where allowed to live as freely as they wanted. Goodbyes: Good byes are shown all throughout the book by first parvanas father going and then at the end of the book Nooria and her mother and little brothers and sisters going to a different part of the country to go and marry a man so they are safe. Happiness: Happiness is not very strong in the book because the book is very serious and sad. But a main scene of happiness would have to be when parvanas dad was coming back from the prison and she runs up to him and gives him a huge hug. |
